Kindle version 2
Kindle version 2
Although the original Kindle didn’t hit the market until November 2007, its original concept goes back a bit farther than that. The idea for this device came from the minds at Engadget back in the Fall of 2006. Engadget does reviews of products in electronics and technology. As with any new idea it took some initiative to bring it into reality. I’m sure that one of the reasons behind the delay was to work out any bugs that may have been found in the system. But as people have commented you no sooner get something that it becomes obsolete. This is not so much the case with the Amazon Kindle; however, despite its short run on the market thus far it has attained such success that Kindle Version 2.0 is already in the works. It has been speculated that the hot item for Christmas this year is going to be the Kindle Version 2.0. When it comes to toys of this nature grown-ups are just like kids again. It makes me wonder how many adults are actually being good with the hopes that Santa is going to put one in their stocking. There isn’t an exact release date as of yet, but it is said will be occurring in either September or October 2008. So what does the new Kindle have that the old one doesn’t? Well what most people have raved about so far is that this Kindle is a lot thinner than its predecessor. The other thing that is an advantage is the larger display. A selection of colors is going to be offered as well. What those colors are yet nobody knows, but I’m assuming they’re probably the following: Purple, Magenta, Neon Blue, Lime Green, Red, Black, and possibly Emerald. But these are just my own speculations and colors that I would choose were I the one producing this item. They’re also the colors I’ve noticed on cell phones, computers, and other devices. It goes without saying that they would probably aim to match existing devices. The ability to interface with other devices has also been improved. The newer model is a smaller size with the dimensions being 8 1/2 ” x 11″. It is supposed to be released by the Spring of 2009. The newer releases of the Kindle are going to have a lower price tag as well. Upon their initial release, the MSRP is said to be $299.00; however, by the time the 8 1/2″ x 11″ model is released it is postulated that the price will in fact be $249.00. With Amazon making improvements such as this to the Kindle, many are already talking about disposing of their current one in favor of the new one. With the way the new Kindle looks, I can’t say much that I blame them.
