Web animation – general advice

Web animation – general advice
Animation is today the very life of the Internet and its popularity is only on the rise. Before you begin to count the number of places on your website that you could set animation in, let us see if you could put together an animation strategy. You need to ask yourself first what real purpose new animation on your website will serve. What kind of audience do you think you aim your website at, and will they be pleased with the change? Will the new animation you place on your website contribute to the message you wish to put out or take way from it? If the answers to all these questions point to a positive improvement in your website, you could begin to form a proper animation strategy. GIF is the most widely accepted animation format for Internet. It is able to display simple animation, and it uses vector graphics in place of actual pictures. Vector graphics is a method of storing graphical information in the form of mathematical descriptions of the image in question. There is no actual storage of the image information, only a description of how to re-create one on demand. This allows the storage of high-quality images in animation using software like Flash. Image maps in 3-D are often stored in the popular GIF file format discussed above, but JPEG, TIFF, TGA and PNG are also used. While JPEG is very popular, PNG is quite noteworthy for offering 48-bit color. PNG is also lossless, and provides gamma correction; this is a setting that many imaging applications are capable of using for brightness and contrast adjustment. PNG has automatic gamma handling ability to ensure that images appear the same across different platforms. But PNG has a few problems as well. These files are somewhat bulkier than the standard JPEG ones, often five times the size. For Web animation, the most popular formats SWF or Flash, and Shockwave. The aesthetics of the use of animation on a webpage demand use in moderation. A single instance of Web animation can make all normal stationary images nearby pale in comparison. Locating animation appropriately is very important. While on this line of thinking, make sure that you never put more than one animated film on a page: it can quickly overwhelm a viewer. You might be tempted to place a looping animation on a page; if the loop is too short, and if visitors on a visit of normal length get to see the film more than once, that could leave them with a bad impression. Make sure that you plan your animation adequately. It is often better not to have anything at all than to put on your website some hurriedly finished piece. Go through all the steps needed, storyboard, plan, add appropriate sound, and do it with panache.

Wlan media bridge

Filed under: Tech and Media — admin @ 8:40 pm

Wlan media bridge
A WLAN media bridge is a small piece of hardware which literally bridges the connection between a PC and a home entertainment system. The bridge is usually comprised of two pieces, one which will be hooked up to the router which runs your network, and the other component will be attached, for example to the television set. This wireless media bridge will allow the rapid streaming of both audio and video files to be made from the computer to the television. This is something which has been made so much easier thanks to the advent of wireless local area networks, because there is no longer the need for any obtrusive cables to be present in order to connect two pieces of hardware. The PC is a great modern day form of entertainment in itself. With a good internet connection it is possible to stream movies and television programs to watch on your monitor. But what if you only have a small screen laptop and want to share the experience with the family? Then a WLAN media bridge will come into its own. You will be able to share that incoming media by transmitting it over the wireless network connection, to the receiver which is connected to the television. You will then be able to enjoy the entire experience, just as if you were watching via satellite or cable being received in the normal manner. The connectivity of media devices is a big market in the world of technology, and being able to download movies to your computer and then share then on the family TV is a great advance. But the usage does not stop there, for home movies can be created through editing software on the computer and streamed to the TV, and you could also enjoy running your favorite mp3 music files through the surround sound audio system you may have in your home entertainment system. The WLAN media bridge makes all this possible, as it will work effortlessly and seamlessly when hooked up to your network. When using a WLAN media bridge, you will need to ensure that you have a good strong network signal. Some devices can interfere with the radio signals which are broadcast from wireless access points, and so eliminating as many of them as you can will provide you with a solid performance. Most media bridges will allow connection to more than just one device. Games consoles and Digital Video Recorders can also be hooked up to the receiver, if they possess the relevant Ethernet connection capabilities needed to receive the streamed packets of information.

Smartphone batteries
Smartphones are more than just mobile phones and Smartphone batteries have to be a whole lot smarter too. Check out the amount of work a Smartphone is expected to do – check emails, send emails, organize meetings, schedule luncheon dates with friends, sending text e-messages, process business data, create and edit documents, view movies, play songs, engage in games and access the internet. What would happen if the battery dies in the middle of your busy day?! The world as we know it would come to a stop. Yes, you can charge batteries in the office, in cars, in hospitals or anywhere you go. But it would put a limit to our mobility. Smartphone batteries, unfortunately, are not able to run along with their Smartphones. They cough, sputter and die sooner than you want them to. Imagine losing power in the middle of an important presentation. But there are ways to make them last longer and increase the time between charging. Just a few simple suggestions but they may improve battery life significantly. It may be news to you that you can keep charging your lithium ion batteries as often as you want. So keep charging while in your office, waiting in the hospital or airport lounges or while driving to meet clients. So go ahead and plug it in. Check out your settings menu and turn on the energy-saving settings. Make sure your screen saver comes up as soon as possible. That is a big energy saver. You can turn off the vibration mode and just keep the ringing mode on. You can lessen the brightness of your screen – another big energy saver. In places where you can call and not email, do so. Also limit your email downloads. A Smartphone uses twice as much energy to send an email than to make a call. Your Smartphone’s operating systems are also big power consumers. But manufacturers try to improve power saving in newer versions. So keep updating your operating systems and software. Use simple ringtones rather than musical ringtones. Use services like location services only when it is required. Have Bluetooth turned off when not in use. Keep your phone locked. While driving keep your Smartphone in your pocket and not on the dashboard where the hot sun can fry it. Heat has a deteriorating effect on batteries. Also make calls in lean hours rather than in peak hours. Once you have acquainted yourself with your Smartphone and the various ways you can save energy, put it into practice. Check out EBay for a complete range of Smartphone batteries and the best deals offered. Buy good batteries from authorized dealers. And a hot tip – carry an extra battery for emergencies.
